Opponents of megaloads present their arguments to federal judge

LEWISTON, ID - A decision by a federal judge regarding megaloads was expected Monday.

The Nez Perce Tribe, attorneys for General Electric and the United States Forest Service presented their arguments Monday afternoon in front of Federal Judge B. Lynn Winmill.

The tribe and environmental group, Idaho Rivers United, are trying to stop GE and the United States Forest Service from moving another megaload shipment through tribal lands. If the judge rules in favor of the tribe, GE could lose millions of dollars of revenue. The last megaload that GE moved through tribal land caused upheaval among the local community.
