Paper snowflake making competition takes shape in Moscow

MOSCOW, ID - Christmas is long gone, but the snow from the Christmas Eve storm has stuck around on the Palouse.

In Moscow, some creative competitors are making flakes of their own.

"It brought the kid out in me," said woman competitor.

Appearances Marketing and Promotions in Moscow has created a competition, and thanks to social media, everyone can participate.

"It ties us into the art-based community, and it's just fun," said Appearance Marketing Account Executive Elizabeth Prasil.

They're asking people to make their best paper snowflake and post a picture of it on their Facebook wall.

"I was aiming for it to come out right and not be cut in half," said competitor Christine Cavanaugh.

As you can see, the competition is pretty fierce. I tried my hand at making a snowflake, and it's not as easy as it looks.

"You're just going to take your top corner there, and you're going to take it down to the opposite corner, and then you're going to line up your edges," said Appearance Marketing Graphic Designer Robin Lopez.

After you have a square, just fold it into a diagonal twice and start cutting. Just don't chop off too much along the crease, because it will fall apart.

"There's no right or wrong way to make it," said Lopez.

There's not much time left to enter the contest. They'll be picking a winner on Monday.

If you would like to enter the contest, search "Appearance Marketing and Promotions" on Facebook, and post a picture of your snowflake on their wall.
