Pipe bomb injury is under investigation

MOSCOW, ID - A 22-year-old Moscow man is hospitalized after a homemade explosive blew up in his hand.

According to the Latah County Sheriff's Office, the man made a pipe bomb out of gun powder and PVC pipe. They said the bomb exploded in his hand when he tried to light it off near Darby Road, northeast of the Moscow city limits. He was taken to Gritman Medical Center Wednesday night with serious injuries to his right hand. The incident is still under investigation, but officials said they believe the man was just experimenting and didn't have a mal-intent.
