Police Chief Jenkins said Brian Kitchen admits to starting 17 fires in Pullman

PULLMAN, WA - New information Tuesday night on the number of fires Pullman resident Brian Kitchen set, before being arrested for the Grove Apartment fire in July.

Monday night Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins told the police advisory committee that 31-year-old Kitchen admitted to starting 17 fires in Pullman that date back to 2000.

Eight of those fires happened on the Washington State University campus, and that's in addition to the Grove Apartment Complex fire that caused more than $13 million in damage.

Jenkins explained that Kitchen's admission to starting the earlier fires is the only evidence they have against him, which is one reason the state won't prosecute him for them. However, Whitman County Prosecutor Denis Tracy said Kitchen will make restitution payments on the fires.
