Port of Clarkston begins project to upgrade high speed internet

CLARKSTON, WA - The Port of Clarkston is moving into the construction phase of their telecommunications project, after awarding a bid to a local contractor.

Port Manager Wanda Keefer said that phase one of the project to bring higher internet speeds to the area, starts next week with the installation of fiber optic cables along Port Way and Port Drive in Clarkston. By adding a fast channel of communication to the historic port district, Keefer said local businesses and internet providers can benefit from the upgrade.

"That means any internet service provider can get on board and provide services to the business," said Keefer.

Keefer suggests that by having open access, competition for high speed internet access will increase and therefore lower costs to the businesses using the fiber optic line.
