Professor's cancer diagnosis inspires WSU students to organize playathon

PULLMAN, WA - A group of Washington State University Students organized a playathon Friday afternoon to show support for one of their favorite professors who is battling cancer.

WSU Professor Doctor Karen Savage was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, but she is still teaching at the university while going through treatment. Sarah Stark is one of her students that organized the playathon in the atrium of the Holland and Terrell Libraries.

"We're trying to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society through playing," said Stark. "So she's always instilled the joy of performance with us, and we thought that would be a good way to give back to her."

A total of eight students took turns playing the piano from noon till 4 p.m. Friday. Before the event, they raised about $500 for the American Cancer Society, and their goal is to make it to $1,000.
