Pullman police release alcohol use statistics
PULLMAN, WA —
The Pullman Police Department recently released statistics regarding alcohol use in the city.
In 2016 there were 1,395 suspected cases of people using alcohol, 140 alcohol arrests, 105 DUI arrests, which is one more than 2015, and ten people went to the hospital for detox.
Officials with the department say these numbers have remained consistently high throughout the years.
“Well yes and no because, for example the total number of alcohol arrests, sometimes that number can be impacted really by availability of staff to actually enforce those types of crimes,” said Gary Jenkins, Pullman Police Chief.
Police Chief Gary Jenkins says those suspected of using alcohol has likely gone up due to the rising population in Pullman especially at Washington State University.
He says there is an alcohol issue in the city, but questions whether it is different than other university cities.
