Roller Hills Derby Dames fundraiser supports victims of domestic abuse

PULLMAN, WA - Coug fans are getting excited for the Homecoming football game on Saturday, but there's another full contact sporting event this weekend at WSU that's worth checking out for a good cause.

The Rolling Hills Derby Dames are taking on the Rodeo City Roller Girls from Ellensburg in the Fall Brawl at Beasley Coliseum on Friday night. If you aren't familiar with roller derby, it's a fast-paced, all-female sport where two teams compete in a "bout".

"It is full contact, so girls are trying to knock you to the ground and sometimes people get hurt," said Rolling Hills Derby Dames President Daquarii Rock. "But we try to take safety precautions and follow the rules."

In addition to providing entertainment, the Fall Brawl is also a fund-raising event. The Derby Dames are partnering with Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse, which is a local non-profit that provides support for victims of domestic abuse. They will also collect canned food donations at the door. If you'd like to attend, doors open Friday night at six, and the bout starts at seven.
