Rough Creek Wildfire near Riggins nears total containment by Thursday

RIGGINS, ID - The Rough Creek wildfire, located six miles east of Riggins, is nearing full containment despite fears of flash flooding and lightning strikes from Tuesday night's thunderstorms.

Public Information Officer Brian LaMoure said the blaze that engulfed 2,600-acres is 80% contained as of late Wednesday afternoon. LaMoure said they're relieving some hot shot teams as the threat of any danger from the thunderstorms has diminished.

"We were concerned about the thunderstorm with the winds and the additional lightning but the fire lines held, the winds weren't too bad, and it didn't really have an impact on the fire which is really nice," said LaMoure.

LaMoure said 100% containment is expected by Thursday and they hope to pass the fire management to the local fire district by Friday.
