School is back in session; obey laws when driving in school zones

LEWISTON, ID - You may have noticed the flashing school zone signs around town.

That's because city and school district leaders want drivers to start thinking about school zones and taking extra precautions.

In Lewiston, if you choose not to slow down in a school zone you could face a fine of more than $150.

If you don't stop for a pedestrian or child crossing the street it's a $90 fine.

Drivers are also now allowed to pass a bus which has its light on and stop sign out because they're loading or unloading kids, and that includes both directions of travel. If you do over-take or pass a school bus you could be charged with a misdemeanor and a judge will decide your fine in court.
