Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Alan Johnson said they'd like to hire up to six more people within the next year. He said increasing staff will reduce overtime costs and will provide more training for detention deputies.
"We need some more people in the detention side to keep up with the responsibilities detention officers are assigned to," said Johnson.
Johnson said the overall goal is to ensure and provide better safety for inmates and employees. Commissioners are currently reviewing the Sheriff's Office recommendation and will discuss the matter further at their next meeting.
