Steelhead Derby unveils new competition categories due to fishing restrictions

LEWISTON, ID - Despite new fishing restrictions, members of the Steelhead Derby say the show must go on.

The annual event held on the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater River boasts new competition categories this year, like 'smallest fish'. Co-chairman Tyler Kempster hopes this offsets the restrictions fishermen are facing. Currently the Idaho Department of Fish and Game won't allow people to keep fish larger than 28 inches long.

"There's a lot of good water to fish and the catching rates are very high so people are catching fish," said Steelhead Derby Co-chairman, Tyler Kempster.

The derby starts on Saturday the 23rd. You can register online or in person at select businesses. Head to to learn more.
