Students at Moscow Middle School learn why breakfast is important

MOSCOW, ID - It's National Nutrition Month, and students at Moscow Middle School learned a thing or two about eating a balanced breakfast Tuesday morning.

Of course many people believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the Idaho Dairy Council sponsored a school-wide breakfast to teach kids why it's important to start the day with a healthy meal.

"Kids that have breakfast have better test scores," said Idaho Dairy Council Health and Wellness Manager Pohley Richey. "They have improved memory and concentration, they have healthier body weights, and they feel better all day long. And they can perform better at school."

This school-wide assembly was a special occasion, but Moscow Middle School regularly has grab and go breakfasts for students who don't have time to eat before they come to school. According to the USDA, a balanced breakfast includes whole grains, fruit or vegetables, diary and protein.
