Temporary replacement for Sheriff Bancroft will be appointed by end of Sept.

CLARKSTON, WA - The search for an Asotin County sheriff continues.

Current Sheriff, Ken Bancroft announced his early retirement earlier this month. He'll finish his career with Asotin County on August 31st.

County commissioners are working with city leaders to find someone to fill the position until a new sheriff is elected in November.

"The idea is to keep it running smoothly," said Mayor of Clarkston, Kathleen Warren. "They don't have to make any major changes to how things are run during that period. They just need to make sure things are running smooth and everybody is doing their job."

Mayor Warren said right now, they're considering appointing Police Commander, Jim Smith or Police Chief Joel Hastings.

County commissioners have until the end of September to make a decision.
