The Somers Fire is reported at 58% containment

IMNAHA, OR - A fast moving fire burning in the Wallowa Whitman Forest has now destroyed one structure and nearly 3,600 acres.

The Somers Fire, burning 15 miles east of Imnaha in Hells Canyon has reached 58-percent containment. Firefighters are continuing structure protection around 20 residences and ranches. 353 firefighters are taking on the blaze.

"Some very tuff territory there, some steep slopes, and lots of different types of fuels, grassy fuels, and then there are some larger fuels," said Smith. "So with the challenges of terrain and topography it makes it a little more challenging to fight this fire."

Fire officials want to remind the public that no camping is allowed on the Oregon side of the Snake River right now. Visitors should also be ready for heavy fire traffic in the area.
