Theft victim recognizes stolen items on Craigslist, police catch criminal

COLFAX, WA - A Colfax man is in jail facing multiple felony charges after burglarizing a home and trying to sell the items on Craigslist.

Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers said the burglary was reported north of Colfax on June 22nd. Myers said about a thousand-dollars worth of property was stolen, including a gun, stereo equipment, and golf clubs. Myers said days later, the victim found a couple ads on Craigslist that matched the description of the stolen goods.

The online ad led investigators to the home of 44-year-old Walter Lander, and deputies were able to locate some of the stolen items. Myers said Lander was arrested and he's still at the Whitman County Jail facing charges of first degree burglary, possession of stolen property, theft of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
