Three deer shot dead in three days in northern Idaho

DALTON GARDENS, Idaho (AP) - Officials with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game are investigating after three deer were found shot in three days within the northern Idaho city of Dalton Gardens

Department spokesman Phil Cooper told the Coeur d'Alene Press that some people in the town feed the deer and others wish they were gone. Officials say the buck, doe and fawn carcasses were killed with a small-caliber bullet between Feb. 7 and Feb. 9.

It's not deer hunting season in northern Idaho, and shooting a deer out of season is a misdemeanor with a sentence of up to six months in jail. If someone kills more than one deer illegally within a year, they can be charged with a felony.
