For the third year in a row, the Skills USA program at LHS will spread Christmas cheer to community children in need with their hand-crafted toys. This holiday season 24 one-of-a-kind rocking horses were made by the students and donated Thursday afternoon to the Toys for Tots Foundation.
"It's important for the students that build the horses and it's also important for the recipients of the horses to realize that there are people out there that will show kindness toward them," said LHS Skills USA Program Adviser William Jones.
"We want to be a part of the community," said LHS Junior Rachel Davis. "We want to reach out and help all of the families and all the kids. We don't want to be just some high school organization, we want to actually do something for the community."
LHS students have been working on the rocking horses since September, adding their own unique touch to each individual horse. Toys for Tots will distribute the rocking horses as Christmas gifts to the less fortunate children in the community.
