Train derails in NE Oregon
LA GRANDE, Ore. - A train carrying hazardous materials and other cargo derailed alongside a northeastern Oregon highway early Wednesday morning.
There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters evacuated an area around the train as a precaution while they examined the 27 derailed cars.
Two of the cars involved carried hazardous materials, but firefighters determined there wasn't a leak.
The train left the tracks around 1:45 a.m. on Highway 203, east of La Grande, near the historic Hot Lake resort.
Eight miles of highway were closed as first responders inspected the train. The highway was expected to reopen Wednesday morning.
Not all of the cars overturned, with some remaining upright, transportation officials said.
