U I Hartung Theatre actors gave a sneak peek of their performances for competition

MOSCOW, ID - University of Idaho actors are preparing for the regional Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival in Boise, where they'll compete against schools from across the region.

Reporter Rachel Dubrovin explains why these students will spend their Valentine's weekend celebrating their love for acting.

We're at the University of Idaho's Hartung Theater where actors are gearing up for a regional competition in Boise. KLEW News was able to get a sneak peek of some those performances.

"I'll dress you in silks and satin's," sings U of I actor.

"It's called acting and it's the only thing that we love," said U of I Head of Acting, Kelly Quinett. "It's a calling, so that's why we're here."

"So this night is really a night where all of us can really see all of our pieces and just appreciate all the work that we've all done together," said U of I student Jacque Peres.

"You're going to see everything from comedy to tragedy," said Quinett. "It's across the board."

"I love you, too," said an actor.

"We are celebrating the work in preparation to go to festival on Saturday," said Quinett. "This is a celebration of about a thousand students that will gather in Boise, Idaho amongst eight other regions in the country to celebrate the best of the best."

"It's a great opportunity for the U of I students to network, make connections, build our work, meet new people, learn new ideas," said Peres. "Mostly it's just a just a great experience for us to branch out from our own little world here in Moscow, Idaho."

"Just a myriad of artists coming together to celebrate," said Quinett.

"It's nice to know that you're going to a competition and your work is going to be honored there, and appreciated, and critiqued even," said Peres.

"It's live storytelling and live story celebration, and that's everything," said Quinett. "And I think in this age of technology, it's very meaningful to come and connect."

"Gimme cupid's famous arrow gimme gimme that thing called love," sings Actress

The actors will compete against college students from all over the western United States from Alaska, to Colorado... to Nevada.

This festival will be at Boise State University, and about 50 U of I students will compete for awards in performance and design.
