The university held a special dedication ceremony at the arboretum Wednesday afternoon to honor Carol and Malcom Renfrew. Malcolm Renfrew led the U of I's chemistry department for almost 20 years, and the couple helped fund the arboretum's new information kiosk.
U of I Arboretum Superintendent Paul Warnick said the garden wouldn't exist without generous donations like this one.
"All of the assets in the arboretum are solely with donated money," said Warnick. "No state tax dollars have gone to buy anything in the arboretum."
This new shelter will give arboretum visitors some background information about the 45-acre facility. It features over 15,000 plants, and more than 2,500 species. If you'd like to visit the arboretum and its new shelter, there's plenty of parking on the south side off Palouse River Drive.
