A Stage Two evacuation notice is now effective immediately for the communities of Waha and Redbird. Nez Perce County Sheriff Joe Rodriguez said the notice means residents should prepare to leave at a moment's notice.
"We have deputies right now passing out maps and information regarding the fire, the location, and the evacuation process between one, two and three. We have a boat on the river to education people," said Rodriguez.
While there are closures all around the fire, the sheriff's office cannot close the river, however boaters are asked to stay out of the way of helicopters. Rodriguez said every time a boat gets in the way of helicopter getting water, it is prolonging the time it takes for water to be dumped on the fire.
