According to Deputy Secretary Brad Hendrickson of the Washington State Senate, the Democrats are expected to lead the majority with a 26 to 23 vote. However he said conservative Democrats Tim Sheldon and Rodney Tom are considering working with the Republicans to give them the majority lead at a 25-24 vote. District Nine Republican Senator Mark Schoesler was chosen as leader of the Republican Caucus and may lead the Senate if they take the majority.
"I'm optimistic that one way or another, there's going to be a philosophical majority that wants to work on sustainable budgets, good solid reforms for our economy and for education," said Schoesler.
It's unclear whether Senator Sheldon and Senator Tom are planning to vote philosophically with the GOP Senate members on certain issues, or if they'll vote on every issue with the Republicans.
