White bands signify trees that have been treated with pesticides

MOSCOW, ID - In Moscow, you may start to notice white bands tied around some of the trees in the downtown area.

The city started spraying the soil around its downtown trees to control weeds and pests. City officials said the chemicals they're using aren't harmful to humans or pets, however parents and pet owners should keep kids and pets away from treated areas until the chemicals dry.

Applications will be made in the early mornings, depending on weather, until March 28. You'll know if a tree was recently treated with pesticides if there's a white band tied around its trunk.
