Pullman police arrested 53-year-old Cheryl Bynum after she lost control of her van just north of Pullman off Highway-27. Police said she was speeding northbound on Grand Avenue at about 7:00 on Monday, forcing both lanes to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting her. This caused a southbound driver to hit another vehicle, drive his SUV into a ditch, and knock over a large power pole at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Turner Drive.
"The vehicle was then entangled in some of the power lines and the driver was trapped inside until Avista could respond and deactivate the power," said Pullman Police Officer Aaron Breshears. "And then the Pullman Fire Department was able to extract the driver at that point."
Luckily, that river was able to walk away from the accident and he didn't need medical treatment. Bynum was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said she was under the influence of alcohol and prescription pills. Police are charging her with a felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
