Women in Latah County may qualify for a free mammogram

MOSCOW, ID - Gritman Medical Center in Moscow is helping women battle breast cancer for free.

Their Bosom Buddies Program offers breast cancer screenings free of charge.

Women receiving health care in Latah County qualify for a free mammogram if they can provide a note from their physician that verifies their financial need. It's recommended that all women over the age of 40 go through this screening process annually.

"If a lady's 40 and hasn't had a mammogram yet, I mean, they should just do it," said Gritman Medical Center Mammographer Dawn Burns. "It's a fairly quick and easy process."

The screening only takes about 15 minutes, however mammograms at Gritman can cost between $250 and $400. The Bosom Buddies Program has provided hundreds of free mammograms since it was created 12 years ago.
