WSU Compton Hall elevator malfunctions leaving 16 people stranded

PULLMAN, WA - Pullman firefighters rescued 16 people from an elevator on the Washington State University campus Monday morning.

According to Pullman Fire Chief Mike Heston, they were called to the Compton Union Building around 11:30 Monday morning. Firefighters dropped a ladder through the top of the elevator and had each person climb out one-by-one. Heston said they were stuck for about 45 minutes, but everyone remained calm and no one was injured.

He said elevator malfunctions are actually fairly common on the WSU campus, but usually elevator operators are able to resolve the issue without calling the fire department.
