October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and in an effort to prevent and change attitudes toward domestic violence, the YWCA has teamed up with local coffee shops for the event "Latte and Learn." Baristas are placing stickers with shocking statistics on cups as you get your daily dose of caffeine.
"Information like the fact that domestic violence is the leading cause of injury for women from ages 15 to 44," said YWCA Advocate Shelly Meisner. "In fact it causes more injuries than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined. One out of four women will be a victim of domestic violence."
Stickers will be placed on cups all week long, as one of the many outreach efforts the YWCA is doing for the month of October. Last year alone the YWCA took over 1,400 calls and housed 124 women and kids in their safe house.
