Cougs compete for starting quarterback position

PULLMAN, WA - One day after the Vandals, it was the Washington State Cougars who took the field at Sacajawea Middle School for the last time this late summer for their first scrimmage of the fall.

The cougs went through over 70 plays as the offense threw for five total touchdowns, including two from Connor Halliday and a 25-yard strike from Austin Apodaca. Freshman Tyler Bruggman impressed as well throwing for 87 yards, including a 62-yard scoring strike to Senior Wide-out Vince Mayle. Though they have been in Lewiston for over a week, the Cougs left back to Pullman Sunday night, though Head Coach Mike Leach would have liked a little more time.

"It's been good, it's been really good," said Leach. "I wish we had four more days. The reason I say that is because there's a natural transition in a mock game week when you back off of them."

The Cougs are now done in Lewiston and will be back on their own field on Tuesday, as the players will get a day off Monday so the coaches can review the footage you're seeing now.
