PULLMAN, WA —
About 250 people showed up to honor former WSU safety Steve Gleason.
On Thursday, Gleason was given the highest honor a WSU alum can receive, the Regents’ Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Gleason played for the Cougs from 1995-2000. He then went on to play for the Saints for seven years, from 2000-07.
He was diagnosed with ALS in 2011.
Former WSU teammate Grady Emmerson spoke about Gleason, using their coach’s old words.
"Coach Price told us one day at practice and it stuck out, "Ah, you can easily judge the character of a man, but how he treats those, he can to nothing for them. Steve Gleason."
