L-C Warrior Catcher Jake Shirley named Player of the Year

LEWISTON, ID - With the Warriors finishing out their season at the number two spot nationally, a major part of the team wins a huge honor.

Lewis-Clark State Senior Catcher, Jake Shirley was selected as the NAIA west region's 'Player of the Year' on Monday. Shirley led the NAIA west in batting average with 406, hits with 84, and a 477 on-base percentage. He also ranked in the top-10 in slugging percentage, runs scored, runs batted in, doubles, and walks.

Shirley leads a group of five Warrior seniors that received all-region honors. Infielder Cody Weiss, outfielders Cody Lavalli and Ryan Sells and pitcher Michael Noteware were also picked for the all-group team.

The Warriors finished the regular season in style over the weekend, beating Linfield College 8-0 and 4-2 in a doubleheader on Saturday, then taking down Western Oregon 11-4 on Sunday. They finish the season at 43-7 overall and sitting at the number two spot in the national ranks.
