University of Idaho kicker Austin Rehkow and quarterback Chad Chalich have been recognized as Players of the Week for their strong efforts in their 26-24 win of Temple last Saturday.
Rekhow, a true freshman who also punts, was successful on four of five field goal attempts to earn recognition as the Special Teams Player of The Week by F.B.S. independents and college football performance awards.
As mentioned Tuesday, red-shirt freshman Chalich completed 26 of 43 passes for 310 yards and ran for 114 yards on 14 carries and was honored as the Independent Offensive Player of The Week by FBS independents and college football madness. Both players take humble approaches to their honors.
"Each week we're getting better, the coaches are putting us in situations where we can execute the play and just get down and score," said Chalich. "Up front they did a good job of keeping the d-line off of me and that makes me see the defense and make plays. You know, they do a great job up front and we're just going to keep getting better."
"Just glad to be able to help the team, and the biggest part is we won," said Rehkow. "I mean if it's zero field goals or four field goals as long as we win, that's the biggest thing."
Being recognized for their achievements should be good motivation as they prepare to take on No. 23 Fresno State this Saturday at the Kibbie Dome.
