UI Vandals week off had Petrino getting his team back to basics

MOSCOW, ID - When a team is off track, sometimes they just need a little rest and relaxation.

The 1-6 University of Idaho Vandals football team may have had a bye this past week, but that doesn't mean they weren't on the field. Head coach Paul Petrino was busy getting his team back to basics. Though the Vandals were able to rest up healthy players and hopefully heal the injured, that didn't keep the team from having a few makeshift scrimmages against each other.

On the injury note, hurt players are something coach Petrino doesn't talk about, but he does mention getting backup quarterback Taylor Davis more reps in the past week of practice after starter Chad Chalich went down with a shoulder injury.

"I think we got a lot better on a lot of things," said Petrino. "We went back and stressed a lot of fundamentals and techniques, I think that helped a lot. We got Taylor a lot of reps...just did, to be honest with you, a lot of ones on ones, offense against defense, we treated it like a little three-day spring ball."

Hopefully the Vandals are very well rested as they will travel to Oxford, Mississippi to take on a very tough Ole Miss Rebels team that just took down the number six ranked LSU Tigers in a major upset. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
