Vandals roll SFA in CIT opener
MOSCOW, ID —
Last year the Idaho Vandals landed a date with Seattle University in the CBI after a devastating loss in the BigSky Tournament.
The Vandals, they came out as flat as a pancake and got flipped upside down like a flap-jack against an inferior opponent. But tonight was a much stiffer test and the Vandals looked to mature from last year’s postseason performance.
The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin the visitors tonight at Memorial Gym. Vandals paying a pretty penny to obtain tonight’s home contest and Idaho rattles off 7 unanswered to kick off the action as Arkadiy Mkrtychyan banks one home on the pull-up and I tell you what, it sure is good to see Chad Sherwood firing on all cylinders. He had a game high 17 on five triples, Vandals up 10-4.
Jacks nibble into that lead as Kavin Harris drive baseline for the deuce but Idaho showing the maturity tonight. Nate Sherwood in the post he had ten, then Pat Ingram taking his turn for the baseline drive, count that basket and a foul. Vandals led by six but the party was just getting turnt off the scramble its Vic Sanders finding Nate Sherwood running right up the seam for the two-hander and SFA needed a timeout. They were down 11.
Less than a minute later, name that Sherwood, Chad Sherwood from downtown, Vandals up 14 and they go on to run the Lumberjacks right out of the gym ending their season. Final score tonight Vandals 73-Jacks 50.
