Vandals victorious in first game against Sacramento State
MOSCOW, ID —
The Idaho Vandals took on the Sacramento State Hornets and was an up-and-down affair for the Vandals.
In the first quarter, the defenses came out to play.
The first two drives, the Hornets and Vandals traded three-and-outs.
Then the Vandals had some momentum, Matt Linehan goes to Alfonso Onunwor, but it's picked off by Dre Terrell.
On this play, wide receiver Onunwor goes down with an apparent knee injury.
He didn’t return for the rest of the game.
In the second, this is when the Vandals found some offensive.
Aaron Duckworth went beast-mode to set up the Vandals first 2017 touchdown.
Linehan finds Jacob Sannon for the first Vandal touchdown of the season.
Another Duckworth run, sets up another touchdown.
Linehan hits Reuben Mwehla for a 35-yard TD pass.
Vandals take the 14-6 lead going into the half.
Idaho pulled away in the second.
Vandals win 28-6.
Idaho now on a six-game winning streak.
The longest since 1994.
And some of the final stats from Thursday's affair.
Quarterback Matt Linehan had an okay game.
He went 14-of-19, throwing for 163 yards and tossing two touchdowns.
But, he also threw two interceptions.
Linehan was also sacked four times tonight. Fortunately, the offense made some half-time adjustments and he wasn't sacked in the second half.
We mentioned running back Aaron Duckworth.
Tonight, not only did he show up, but he showed out.
Duckworth ran for 148 yards on 19 carries.
Oh, and he had 49 receiving yards on only two catches.
Duckworth had 191 all-purpose yards.
Also, Isaiah Saunders can't be ignored.
He ran for 78 yards on 13 carries.
In total rushing, the Vandals has 242 running yards.
