WSU Men’s and Women’s Basketball Previews
PULLMAN, WA —
We are less than a month away from the start of the basketball season.
We're talking Cougs men's and women's basketball teams.
Starting out with the men's team, the Cougs will have a lot of new faces in their starting line-up.
WSU will only have one returning starter from last season.
Malachi Flynn is returning, he averaged 10 points per game last season.
The other four returning lettermen? The next highest scorer is Viont'e Daniels, who averaged only three points.
The men will start its season on November 5th, taking on Saint Martin's in an exhibition game.
The women on the other hand, they've got themselves a squad.
In case you forgot, the women made it to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Semi-finals last season. That's encouraging.
Even more encouraging, the Cougs are returning 12 players, including four starters.
Like I said, squad.
Two of those players include Caila Hailey and Chanelle Molina.
Hailey was a Pac-12 All-Defensive team honorable mention and Molina made the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.
But the Pac-12 is no cakewalk of a women's basketball conference.
Five teams made it to the Sweet-16 in the NCAA Tournament.
Stanford and Oregon made it to the Elite-8.
But. in college basketball, experience can take you a long way.
This should be a good year for the women.
