Bengals open season with sweep of Moscow
LEWISTON, ID —
The weather has not been too kind to the Lewiston Bengals softball program this spring. While several area clubs have played five, six, seven games the Bengals have played zilch! But Monday evening mother nature would finally oblige. Ted Matsuoka back at it again with his Moscow Bears, they were the visitors on opening day at Airport Park.
Bengals in control of this thing in the fourth when Alexis Vaughns rips this RBI triple into right field. Vaughns finished game one a perfect three-for-three with two three-baggers and a pair of ribbies and a nice little headache after this contest.
Here this ground ball off the bat of Brynnan Carpenter is good enough to chase Vaughs home but she’d take the throw from Riley Miller right off the dome, it was 9-0 Bengals.
Fifth inning, Bears break through, Nita Cook riffles this one into right scoring one but Cheyenne Rose would settle down in the circle to strike out Emma Carscallen and then it’s Riley Miller caught looking. Rose struck out 13 in both games one and two, as the Bengals sweep away Moscow to start the year off 2-0.
