Lewiston's Byrer receives Gatorade Idaho CC Runner of Year award
LEWISTON, ID —
Running through rain, heat, steady inclines and rocky terrain may not seem like the most glamorous of sports, but for one Lewiston Bengal cross country runner, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
All the incredible work for LHS senior Austin Byrer has paid off in the ultimate achievement today as the fleet of foot runner was presented with the Gatorade Idaho Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year award.
The Idaho State Champ was also given a $1,000 award to give to the charity of his choice, in which he chose the Boys and Girls Club of the Lewis-Clark Valley. The talented long-distance runner is the first ever cross country runner in Lewiston to ever receive the award.
"Pretty cool award, you know I'm not going to go boast about it,” said Byrer. “But yeah they're definitely really cool. I'm very happy and pleased that I have the ability to get to do this."
Byrer, who has offers to run next year at Weber State, Portland, Idaho and Washington State, is expected to commit to one of those programs sometime next week.
