Vandals and WAC release statements regarding realignment

LEWISTON, ID - As rumors of conference realignment heat up once again, the question remains, just what is the future of the Western Athletic Conference.

With the possibility of two football member schools left, many are speculating that it's days are numbered. With that in mind, the conference has finally released a statement.

Jeff Hurd, who is the interim commissioner of the WAC, released the statement this morning saying in part, "The Board of Directors will not speculate relative to those options, but it has confidence that the WAC will maintain its more than 50-year history as a pre-eminent Division I conference."

In response, the University of Idaho released a statement that reads in part, "We are disappointed in the recent changes that are driven not by tradition, academic quality, competitiveness, or the student experience, but by money."

It continues by stating "As we anticipate future conference movement, we continue to believe strongly that athletes are students first and the experience for them and our fans is first and foremost. We will continue to work diligently to most strongly position the University of Idaho."
