Chen nearly un-hittable as Marlins shutout M's
SEATTLE, WA —
The Seattle Mariners have been hot lately, winners of four straight. The Mariners could win for the fifth straight time tonight, and take the three-game series from the Marlins in the process.
That man right there was the man of the night for Miami. His name, Wei-Yin Chen. Second inning and the 31-year-old lefty is gonna get Nelson Cruz a whiffing, just one of two strikeouts. More from him in a moment. How about Yovani Gallardo, filling in at the tail-end of that starting rotation for Seattle and he didn’t fair very well tonight, giving up a big fly to Justin Bour. That put the Marlins up 4-0 and it was all the run support Chen needed.
Sixth inning, Chen still dealing. He gets Guillermo Heredia to pop out to right. No hitter still intact! He’d be lifted after seven but in the ninth, Miami pen trying to close things out and Mitch Haniger ends the no hit bid. Mariners still fall nonetheless. Marlins win 5-0.
