Mariners offense silent in second straight defeat
HOUSTON, TX —
The Seattle Mariners had a bit of a scare on opening day when King Felix Hernandez left with a groin injury but with Felix likely to pitch. On Saturday Mariner fans could breathe a sigh of relief as day two of the season rolled on in Texas.
Regardless the M’s were still looking to score their first run of the season let alone pick up their first win. Down 1-0 in the fourth when Danny Valencia hits this little dribbler to third and there would be no play as Mitch Haniger scores to tie it at one.
The Mariners would later strand the bases loaded in that inning and that would come back to bite them. This would be the only other run surrendered the Mariners pitching staff and it’s a one-run bomb by Marwin Gonzalez putting the ‘Stros up for good.
In the ninth M’s still had a chance but Mitch Haniger strikes out on a check swing and the Mariners are off to an 0-2 start. They’ll look to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2004 when they opened 0-5 tomorrow (Wednesday) against these same Houston Astros.
