Mariners shutout Astros in home opening win
SEATTLE, WA —
Heading into today, your Seattle Mariners were the proud owners of major league’s baseball’s worst record. Even though they couldn’t wipe the slate clean and start all over, the M’s would get a fresh start with their home opener.
The mariners opening up Safeco Field with the Houston Astros coming to town. Games scoreless in the fifth until Nelson Cruz changes all that. A solid smash into center chases home Taylor Motter and Mitch Haniger to make it 2-0.
Sixth inning now and the M’s up three when Mitch Haniger fights this one off and into right field. Mike Zunino will score and so too will Jarrod Dyson after the high throw from Josh Reddick and after seemingly everything going wrong the last week for Seattle, everything seemed to be going right.
And just when you thought, oh here we go again, bases loaded in the eighth but Seattle is gonna get out of it unscathed as Carlos Beltran pops out in foul territory and the Mariners stop the bleeding by shutting out Houston, 6-0.
