M's acquire Whalen in deal with Atlanta
SEATTLE, WA —
The Seattle Mariners added a pitching prospect after trading away Taijuan Walker last week, acquiring Rob Whalen from Atlanta. The 22-year-old pitched well in double-A before making his major league debut with the Braves. In five starts Whalen went 1-2 with an ERA of 6.57.
Seattle sent their 2014 first round pick Alex Jackson to Atlanta in the deal. Jackson was considered the Mariners sixth rated prospect in their farm system after pounding 11 long ball last season in single-A. The Mariners also received another low-level minor league arm in the deal.
