M's add starting pitching with acquisition of Gallardo
SEATTLE, WA —
The Seattle Mariners have been very, very quiet over the last month but today (Friday) Seattle made some noise. Early Friday morning, the Mariners began by acquiring some starting pitching. Seattle traded utility outfielder Seth Smith to the Orioles for Yovani Gallardo. Gallardo who struggled last year, pitching to an ERA north of five is still just 30-years-old. The power arm spent his first eight big league years in Milwaukee, filling the club’s role as its ace for most of his time there. Gallardo was then traded to Texas in 2015 before winding up in Baltimore last year. Seattle will also receive two-million-dollars cash from the Orioles in the deal.
