Pitchers & Catchers report as Mariners camp opens
SEATTLE, WA —
When you peer out your front window, it may not appear that warm outside but these sights right here are sure to warm you up. Pitchers and catchers reporting today for the Seattle Mariners down in Peoria, Arizona.
New faces like Drew Smyly and Yovani Gallardo in attendance while the same old faces like Mike Zunino and Hisashi Iwakuma were also on the field. The Mariners are coming off an 86-win campaign that left them three games shy of a playoff berth. And it may be just day one, but Scott Servais isn’t wasting anytime when it comes to his pitching staff.
"The first four or five days are really important for our pitchers,” said Scott Servais, Mariners Manager. “Get their legs underneath them and focus on the little things, we've got plenty to work on and improve upon. You know we made 11 errors last year throwing from our pitchers to the bases so we'll tighten that up a little bit."
The Mariners pitchers and catchers will continue to work out exclusively over the next few days before position players report on Saturday before the team’s first full workout on Sunday.
