Lapwai's Domebo earns P1FCU Prep Athlete honors

This week’s P1FCU “Prep Athlete of the Week” has only been part of the last three Idaho Girls 1A-D1 State Championship teams. She may not have led the team in scoring, but as the catalyst to the Wildcats success over the last four years, she’d led her crew in just about every other category. So let’s meet the three-time champ, Iris Domebo.

When you watch Iris Domebo take the court, it’s not hard to figure out just how competitive of a player she is. As a matter of fact, about the only hard thing to figure out is how to pronounce her last name!

"Oh your name is Iris, Dumbo or like, Dome-bow, Do-me-bow, there's just a lot… And I'm like, I'm Iris,” said Domebo.

For the record, it is Domebo. but Dumboo, or Domebow, Iris says paying in, and winning each of the last three state titles in the 1A-D1 Division has been a rush of emotions that have been hard to put into perspective.

"Very nervous and lots of butterflies and clammy hands but it's not like you work hard for nothing, you work to get that state championship and it's an accomplishment and it's a goal that we've met,” said Domebo.

The potato salad connoisseur who has offers from numerous basketball schools from Division II, all the way down to the community college level knows she’ll be off the school, but still isn’t quite sure what she will study.

"I see myself doing, well it changes all the time like different things like an event planner, working for Facebook, or having kids, just it switches up all the time,” said Domebo.

While Iris has offers to play basketball close to home, don’t expect this girl to be hanging around for long post-graduation.

"I think that if I stay here in the LC Valley that I will be here for a very, very long time,” said Domebo. “I feel like I just need to be as far away as possible just to get away from everybody, see new faces, meet new people and just start my own life."

We hope you enjoyed meeting Iris this evening. Each week throughout the school year KLEW Sports and P1FCU team up to highlight a deserving athlete in the area. If you have someone you’d like to nominate you can shoot me an email at zsimonar@klewtv.com and we’ll showcase those athletes right here on KLEW-TV for their outstanding accomplishments.
