Next-in-line Sobotta earns P1FCU Prep Athlete award

The Clarkston Bantams boys’ basketball team has won back-to-back state titles but much of the burden was put on Trevon Allen the last two seasons. But with Allen out the door, the expectation to win another title is still there. But now it’s another senior who’s attempting to carry the Bantams to the promise land and he’s our P1FCU “Prep Athlete of the Week” Jett Sobotta.

Just call him the LC Valley’s version of Steph Curry.

"I really like watching Steph Curry and I really try to model my game off of that,” said Sobotta.

Okay, Mr. Sobotta might not be to the level of a Steph Curry but with some of the shots he throws up there’s no disputing whose game he pays close attention to.

"He can shoot and he's obviously been the MVP the past two years,” said Sobotta. “Has a scorer’s mentality so."

And that’s something that the senior has taken on more of this year. Sobotta averaged over 21 points per game in his last weeks’ worth of games and his recent play has caught the eye of colleges in the region.

"There's a couple NAIA schools that have been looking at me like LC, Eastern Oregon and Corban,” said Sobotta.

Jett said that all schools are a potential landing spot but his focus has been on the current season. But wherever he ends up, he likely has his family genes to thank. His parents are siblings that have all spent time on the hardwood at L-C and they are always there for support, especially mom.

"She'll tell me if I have to work on something but mainly it's just support and love from her,” said Sobotta.

The soft spoken stud also has interest in competing in track and field in college says he is proud of his accomplishments that he’s had so far.

"I know there's a lot of great athletes out there, but for me to be able to get this, it feels really good,” said Sobotta.

We hope you enjoyed meeting Jett this evening. Each week throughout the school year KLEW Sports and P1FCU team up to highlight a deserving athlete in the area. If you have someone you’d like to nominate just go to klewtv.com, click on sports and then prep athlete. Every Wednesday, those athletes are showcased right here on KLEW-TV for their outstanding accomplishments.
