Nunez interested in playing college football

LEWISTON, ID - Many leaders on the football field are very vocal, banging their helmets and pads against their fellow players as they pump them up for battle. Others lead by example, quiet until the moment that ball is snapped when they unleash their athletic fury and lead by example. Today we meet a quiet athlete who does just that shines on and off the field without having to say much at all, Lewiston High's Andres Nunez is this week's P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week!

Occasionally you'll find an exception football player who doesn't need to say much to make a huge impact on the field, like this week's P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week, Lewiston High Senior Andres Nunez.

"I think it's great," said Nunez.

He may be quiet, but he's also humble, hence his response to having scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery.

"Well, you gotta credit the guy who caused the fumble too," said Nunez.

He excels as a receiver and safety on the field, but also as a student, his g.p.a. as a junior was way up there!

"Think it was 3.8 something," said Nunez. "3.85?"

He wants to continue his playing career after high school.

"I wanna go play somewhere, not really sure where yet," said Nunez. "Gonna wait and see how the season goes and what opportunities come up."

And if he had to choose between being a Cougar or a Vandal?

"Probably Idaho, they were talking to me before," said Nunez. "I'd probably prefer them."

And he wants to eventually help people.

"Probably science, health science," said Nunez. "Want to go into something involving health science."

If the NFL doesn't happen, Andres would love to be a paramedic. In the meantime, he enjoys activities in the Valley.

"I like to go hunting, fishing, camping, spend time with family friends, high school stuff," said Nunez.

Lewiston High Head Football Coach Shawn Nilsson appreciates everything Andres brings to his team.

"You know he's a quiet kid, usually doesn't say a whole lot," said Nilsson. "He's kind of a leader by example on the football field. As a teammate to these guys he's not a real boisterous guy. He won't like the interview because he gets embarrassed to get in front of the camera. But he's unbelievable the time and work he puts in to physically get to where he is now. You don't get many kids like that, you don't get to coach many kids like that. He's a special athlete, a special kid, he's a really neat kid."

An all-around great athlete and great kid, proving that actions are truly greater than words, this week's P1FCU Prep Athlete of the Week, Andres Nunez.

We hope you enjoyed meeting Andres Nunez today. Each week throughout this school year KLEW Sports and P1FCU team up to highlight a deserving athlete in the area.
