P1FCU Prep Athlete Natasha Knight broke school record in Javelin
ASOTIN, WA —
Welcome back, Alex Crescenti here in for Zach Simonar. Every week KLEW Sports and P1FCU team up to feature a local athlete. This week we show you a track and field star from Asotin High School who recently broke a school record.
Meet Natasha Knight, a senior track and field athlete at Asotin High School. Along with running in sprints and relays, her premier event is the javelin. In fact, she broke the school record this past weekend at the Central Idaho Invite in Lapwai.
“The weather was terrible so I wasn't expecting anything good, but when she read out those numbers I was...I was really excited,” said Knight.
In only her second throw of the meet and the season, Natasha threw a 109.9 which beat her own personal record of 104.7. When she made the throw she didn’t even know the accomplishment she just made.
“I just thought it was probably in the 90s when I first threw it and when she read it, I was in shock,” said Knight.
For her head coach, Sal Lopez, the accomplishment was great for both of them.
“My job is to make her as successful as possible, and I get happy when my kids get happy,” said Coach Lopez.
In the fall Natasha will attend Lewis-Clark State College and has some interest in furthering her career in track and field.
“I think it would be fun, I don’t know, I’m considering it,” said Knight.
While the state championships is on her mind once again, she already accomplished her goal of breaking this school record this year.
“Now that I got that out of the way I don't know what I'm going to do, just set it higher and higher each meet,” said Knight.
Congratulations Natasha Knight, you’re this week’s “Prep Athlete of the Week”.
