P1FCU Prep Bailey Peters is a standout shortstop on the baseball field
LAPWAI, ID —
Every Wednesday we feature an outstanding high school athlete who shines on the field, as well as in the classroom. This week’s P1FCU “Prep Athlete of the Week” is Bailey Peters of Lapwai High School.
Senior Bailey Peters has a busy schedule. The five-sport athlete is a standout on the baseball field, on the track, and on the court. This kid does it all.
“Football and then basketball.... of course we won state championships,” said Peters. “I did baseball, and then we have track...in my off time I like to ride my dirt bike and do a little more racing this year.”
Right now Peters main focus is track and of course....
“Baseball...I’ve been playing since T-ball, my dad got me started,” said Peters. “I did play Legion ball for Colter Creek in Juliaetta and that was fun.”
Peters says the past couple weeks have been rough, but the hard work his team puts forth makes all the difference.
“They are really good guys, and I think just like having four or five people that play baseball all year, are helping the kids who don’t play much. It is just working out real well, the kids are learning really fast.”
And he says not only is he lucky to have a hardworking and talented team behind him, but the fact that there is a team in itself.
“There hasn’t been a team for 15 years, it’s crazy,” said Peters. “It’s awesome having it back because it’s all around us, and it’s finally back.”
Peters says his skills and love of the game runs deep.
“I have a lot of good guys helping me out, “said Peters. “Tye Bromeling, one of them from Juliaette, one from Kendrick. He’s helped me a lot,…probably the biggest help and my dad of course.”
But a busy baseball season hasn’t stopped him from enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
“I love camping, I ride dirt bike of course…fishing,” said Peters.
Peters says that graduation isn’t far, and he’s excited to take that next step into college life.
“I’m going to LC because it’s financially right for me and hopefully I will go into auto mechanics,” said Peters.
But he says his love of the game will never change.
“I still play to play basketball, oh yeah,” said Peters.
As for the countdown to graduation, his schedule is packed.
“Thursday we have a big game against Potlatch but then I got invited to the Lewiston Sweeney, track that’s pretty big track meet,” said Peters.
Congratulations Bailey Peters you are this week’s “Prep Athlete of the Week.”
